Meta To Remove "Fact Checking"
Many debate the upcoming removal of Meta's "fact-checking" algorithm and strongly question the political influence of the upcoming inaguration of President Trump on this critical change.
Recent changes to Meta: Lots of people are locked in a serious debate around the recent policy changes when it comes to community discourse. There is a severe lack of trust in Meta after the changes he announced last week. You can check out the release of the statement from meta here.
This impacts creators in two ways:
Removal of Fact-Checking
This “decrease in censorship” seems a political move for Meta. One that makes “fact checking” irrelevant and will be replaced in the coming months with “community notes” an effort that Zuckerberg believes will reduce “mistakes” and flags on content that do not meet community guidelines. What could be believed to “decrease mistakes” could also increase fake news spreading and misinformation.
Lack of Trust in Facebook Groups
People are questioning the impact this will have on their communities: With this move, many digital content creators question the ethical considerations and how it impacts their businesses bottom line. Many feel frustrated with these changes, one that also included the “moderation” team from CA headquarters to Texas a fact followed closely to the inauguration of Trump to the Presidential Office.
Paid and free Facebook groups are many places people have built friendships and relationships in addition to support options for paid programs and memberships.
Some believe this new system is the last straw in relinquishing Meta’s control on their engagement and advertisement dollars on the platform. Others still believe that they will work on the platform - but work behind the scenes to draw in new business conversations and relationships.
